An Update on Our Schools

Last summer we began a conversation with parents and other stakeholders about how we support students with developmental disabilities, both in local districts and at our schools. I want to again thank everyone who participated in those conversations and provided valuable feedback. As we discussed in those conversations, this is a difficult topic with many challenges and pressures, all of which impact people's lives. Since those conversations, the Board has reviewed all the feedback and analyzed several different financial scenarios for the schools.

Tonight the Board passed a resolution affirming its commitment to support school districts in their mandate to educate students with disabilities while continuing to provide a safety net of services and supports for students with the most complex needs. The resolution also stated that Hamilton County DD Services will continue to provide services at its two current school locations while working toward ensuring that school operations are financially sustainable. You can read the full text of the resolution here.

This resolution will guide Hamilton County DD Services staff as we support students with DD in our community. We will continue to engage parents, local school districts, and other stakeholders to ensure we hear their voices and respond to their concerns. As part of that ongoing engagement, I will be attending the next PTA meetings at Rost and Fairfax.

I want to thank everyone for their participation in this discussion and their patience throughout the process. I look forward to continuing to work together.

Sincerely,

Alice C. Pavey
Superintendent
