This month we kicked off our campaign honoring the past 50 years of County Boards of DD history. We searched our archives to come up with 50 facts celebrating the history of Hamilton County DD Services.

This week we officially launched our new provider search tool, which has new features including searching by geographic location and functionality on smartphones. It also includes a "wizard" to help narrow down potential providers.

Last May we began a formal process to find a provider to operate our three adult centers. That process is now complete. Beginning May 1, operation of Beckman, Franks, and Kidd adult centers will become the full responsibility of Active Day.

As 2016 draws to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past year. Our system of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities continues to undergo major changes to the traditional way services have been delivered for the past 40 years.

Individuals enrolled in a Home and Community-Based Services waiver may choose to enroll in managed care instead of the traditional fee-for-service program, but enrollment is 100% optional.

As promised, we want to update you on the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process to have a provider operate our three adult centers. In late July, REM Ohio/Mentor Network, Person Centered Services and Active Day submitted statements.

The new MUI Reporting Hotline is active and allows staff, providers, and/or others to report an MUI through a voicemail system. There is also an option to speak with a HCDDS staff if immediate assistance is needed 24 hours a day/7 days per week.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed two important DD-related bills into law at St. Joseph Home in Sharonville. One officially removes the "R" word from the Ohio Revised Code, and the other relates to nursing and early intervention services.

Ohio became the first state in the nation to offer STABLE Accounts, which allow people with disabilities to save and invest money without losing eligibility for certain public benefit programs.
